A 50-year-old Chinese businessman is in a serious condition after he was shot multiple times during the wee hours of Tuesday.
Police Headquarters said the businessman shot is Jianqing Chen. He is the owner of the First Choice Chinese Supermarket on Durban Street, Georgetown.
At about 00:07 hrs on Tuesday, Chen was outside the supermarket in his grey Nissan motorcar when a male on a black motorcycle approached and shot him multiple times.
Police said a 26-year-old security guard attached to the supermarket was on duty at the time of the shooting. He told investigators he overheard Chen arguing with someone on his phone.
“A short while later, he heard several loud explosions suspected to be gunshots. He then observed and saw the suspect rode away at a fast rate, heading west on Durban Street,” Police reported.
The security guard then found Chen covered in blood in driver’s seat. Police said an iPhone was also found in the driver’s seat.
The guard then immediately contacted his boss, Marvin Crawford, the owner of the guard service, and told him what had transpired.
Shortly after, Crawford arrived at the location and took Chen to the Georgetown Public Hospital. Police said he is admitted in a serious condition and is slated to undergo surgery.
The scene was processed and three suspected 9MM spent shells were found.
Investigations are ongoing.
