Wales, a community on the West Bank of Demerara (WBD), is being transformed into a massive industrial and commercial hub in Region Three, and will include a major housing development for residents.
This is according to the Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal who recently engaged Wakenaam residents on housing plans in the region that they can benefit from.
“Wales will become the largest housing scheme, based on our current plan and it is part of the Wales Development, meaning for.. commercial industrial and residential (purposes),” Croal said.
More than 2,000 house lots have already been distributed, he said.
Additionally, some infrastructure work has been ongoing. That work includes roads, drainage, culverts and bridges. Further infrastructure work, to develop additional areas at Wales, will be done subsequently.
The News Room understands that when completed, the Wales residential area will also have recreational spaces, a Police Station, Fire Station and a Health Centre. Other public facilities will be developed.
Outside of the housing development, the Wales area will feature the new Gas-to-Energy project that should slash local energy costs in half.
