President wants ‘major facility’ for eggs, chicken production in each region

President Dr. Irfaan Ali said the government hopes to establish a major agricultural facility in each administrative region that would help increase the amount of eggs and chickens produced locally.

“We want every region to have a major facility, under this agri-innovation programme… the youth innovation programme, that leads to self-sufficiency in eggs and chickens,” the Guyanese Head of State said during a breakfast meeting in Region Five on Tuesday.

He added that these centres could be built on about five acres of land, maximising the use of limited land.

In response to questions posed, the President assured those gathered that the demand for these products is substantial. He also noted that the government is also eyeing the production of value- added products like sausages and meatballs.

The President focused on engaged youth in Region Five during his breakfast meeting.

He also announced support for a project focused on the agro-food business, linking it to the national food system through the Agriculture and Innovation Entrepreneurship Programme. This initiative will use technology and sustainable practices to produce chickens, prawns, shrimp, and eggs.
