James Lord, also known as ‘Jamesy,’ the man who is accused of fatally stabbing his reputed wife, Alexis Roxanne Harris during a confrontation more than a week ago was on Tuesday charged with murder and remanded to prison.
Lord, a sawmill operator of Soesdyke appeared before Magistrate Rhondell Weever.
He was not required to plea to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison.
The matter was adjourned to October 8, 2024.
Twenty-nine-year-old Alexis was allegedly murdered at around 12:20hrs on September 8 at her sister’s Free and Easy, West Bank Demerara house, where she had gone after ending a relationship with Lord, two weeks earlier.
Reports had revealed that Lord, who had visited to see his children, became enraged when he saw Harris using her cell phone.
In a violent outburst, he smashed the phone and followed Harris outside. Witnesses report that Lord then drew a knife from his bag and attacked Harris on the stairway.
Harris attempted to flee but collapsed in a nearby drain. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
During the assault, Lord’s nephew, Junior Lord, intervened but was also stabbed in the abdomen. As Junior Lord fell, Lord continued to attack Harris, stabbing her in the chest and right hand.
Junior Lord was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was admitted.
The accused fled the scene on foot towards the sea dam area. He was apprehended with the assistance of the public. He was found with self-inflicted wounds.
James Lord was charged after being discharged from the hospital.
