Former U.S. Embassy employee arrested over threatening email

Anand Persaud, a 31-year-old resident of Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara, was taken into police custody following his arrest for allegedly sending a threatening email to the United States Embassy in Georgetown. The email, which was sent on July 25, 2024, included threats directed at U.S. government personnel and the Embassy’s facility.

U.S. Embassy security officials reported the threat to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters. After a detailed investigation, which involved cooperation with international law enforcement agencies, detectives were able to track down Persaud. The suspect, a former security guard at the Embassy, was arrested at his home in Sisters Village and subsequently brought to CID Headquarters for further questioning.

Investigators confirmed that Persaud was linked to the email address used to issue the threats. The investigation into the matter is ongoing as authorities continue to gather information.
