Preparations are in full swing to transform the Guyana National Stadium for the highly anticipated 2024 International Building Expo which is expected to attract the participation of 20 foreign companies and more than 350 exhibitors.
Thousands of house lots and land titles will also be distributed while partnerships will be formed and groundbreaking deals will be offered to new and aspiring homeowners. This year’s expo which will run from August 08 to 11 is being held under the theme “Building on the foundation of Sustainability and Unity”.
The News Room on Friday spoke with Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal who visited the site to inspect preparation works. Croal said preparations are ahead of schedule and already over 96 percent of the booths are allocated.
“A hype of activities is taking place here. We are happy with the progress that is being made.
“So far we have about 96 percent of the booths allocated. There are only 6 booth spaces remaining. So that tells the story,” Croal told the News Room.
In the new week, he said works in the main auditorium will be finalised so that business owners can start displaying their brands and design their booths.
So far, Croal said about 20 international companies are expected to participate in this year’s Building Expo.
“Because it’s an international building expo, we have about 20 countries that are represented in terms of where the exhibitors are coming from. So 20 international companies have signed on so far,” he noted.
Additionally, spaces particularly that which house the “equipment zone” was increased. Altogether, the expo is expected to attract 50 small businesses.
“If you really want to learn, network, and appreciate the housing sector, the construction sector, the new technologies, you can embark on, who are some of the new companies we have now in our country.
“Because this is a sector that is growing so constantly, the expo is the place to be,” Croal told the News Room.
Apart from the distribution of house lots and titles in the new areas that are being developed in Regions 3 and 4, Croal said patrons will updated on the works ongoing at Silicia City.
“A lot of work has been happening….There are players in the sector with products that they want to offer to consumers.
“…You will have to know your affordability and the financial institutions are here too so they will be able to provide information to someone who wants to borrow a loan to expand. It’s not just about new homeowners,” Croal said.
Like every other year, Croal said an assessment was conducted to ensure that the Expo improved while new players were encouraged to join the sector.
“It’s a different feeling…That is why we go back, we go back how we can improve from the last time.
“We have every category that is represented here, for building for construction, in general. Not just on the physical side and the hard side but also on the soft side,” Croal said.
