Man remanded to prison after CANU finds cannabis, gun & ammo at house

Jamol Johnson was remanded to prison after 1.2 kilogrammes of cannabis along with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition were found in an East Ruimveldt, Georgetown house with him.

The discovery was made on Tuesday, April 8 by ranks of the Customs Anti- Narcotic Unit (CANU).

In a statement, CANU said ranks acting on information received conducted an operation at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

During this process, the ranks unearthed a quantity of cannabis amounting to 1.2 kilogrammes, one black CANiK 9mm pistol with serial number, T6472-20CC-02763 with magazine containing six live rounds.

Johnson was arrested and escorted to CANU headquarters.

In a subsequent report, CANU said Johnson appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday. He reportedly he pleaded not guilty to the offense of possession of 1.278 kilogrammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

He was refused bail and remanded to prison.
