President Dr. Irfaan Ali said his government will increasingly focus on wealth-generation ventures for citizens should the People’s Progressive Party Civic be elected for another term in office after this year’s elections.
Dr. Ali, who engaged West Bank Demerara residents on Sunday, highlighted some of the ventures the PPP intends to pursue if elected for another five years in office. He believes that allowing citizens to co-invest in national projects such as a new fertliser plant and national gas company will help generate wealth.
However, he said the government will also focus on financial literacy across the country so citizens can develop ventures of their own.
“We are going to educate the population by village, by street, by community, so as we increase the grants that will come to you, the $100,000 grant, you must see the importance of investing it to build prosperity in your future and build more wealth,” Dr. Ali said.

He added, “We are not going to depend on you to find a way; we are going to invest in financial literacy.”
The Guyanese Head of State believes that when citizens are empowered, they will be better positioned to earn more and thus, contribute to more even economic growth in the country.
