Track and Field has received a massive boost with the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) landing a significant multi-year deal with global apparel brand, Adidas.
The initial payout is worth US$300,000 (equipment only), while moving forward to the next three years, the sport will benefit from US$250,000 for each of those years.

The partnership with the German brand, facilitated by Guyanese Cubie Seegobin, is premised on equipment and also financial support.
The announcement was made on Saturday (March 22) at the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora, which is hosting the CARIFTA Games trials this weekend.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr., Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle, President of the Guyana Olympic Association Godfrey Munroe, President of the AAG Sheryl Hermonstine, Chairman of the National Sports Commission Kashif Muhammad and Vice-Chair Cristy Campbell attended the ceremony to unveil the historic development for the sport.
Minister Ramson Jr. related that the country potential as a Track and Field nation and its consistent success, especially at the junior level, were key factors in forging the alliance with Adidas.
“This deal that Guyana has signed with Adidas, which is a world-class advanced company that any other country in the world would want to trade places with us right now for being able to secure this deal on your behalf. That’s how important it is to be recognised,” he pointed out.
Director of Sport Ninvalle underscored the magnitude of the partnership, and the resulting success that could be had with such a major investment in the sport.
He posited that such a historic injection of support in cash and kind can only serve to significantly enhance the profile of the sport.
Hermonstine, the newly-elected AAG head, was also understandably elated to witness the realisation of the groundbreaking agreement among stakeholders, highlighting that the athletes and coaches stand to benefit immensely.
