FOUR-DAY: Rain curtails opening day between Harpy Eagles and Volcanoes

Rain dominated proceedings on day one of the Guyana Harpy Eagles vs Windward Islands Volcanoes fifth round clash in the West Indies Four-Day Championship on Wednesday at the National Stadium, Providence.

Only 27 of the scheduled 90 overs were possible as the groundstaff were kept busy throughout the day; heavy downpours had the players scurrying on and off the field.

Volcanoes, choosing to bat first, closed on 77-2 off 27 overs with Jeremy Solozano, the opener, unbeaten on 43 off 89 balls, an innings that has so far included five fours.

Skipper Alick Athanaze is unbeaten on nine.

Kevin Sinclair made the initial strike for the Harpy Eagles, bowling Stephen Pascal without scoring at 8-1, before Ronaldo Alimohamed accounted for Kavem Hodge, caught by keeper Imlach for 17.

A positive outcome is crucial for the Harpy Eagles, who sit top of the table with 81.2 points, garnered from three wins, a draw and significant bonus points.

Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, the only other unbeaten team in the tournament, are second on 77.8 points.
