Press Release from the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club
The President of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC), Mahendra Boodhoo, along with executive member Luis Kumar, recently held a pivotal meeting with Trinidadian racing drivers Franklyn and Zackary Boodram.
The discussions focused on strengthening motorsport ties between GMR&SC and Team Speedway, emphasising bringing the duo’s race cars to compete in Guyana in 2025.
In addition to their potential participation, the talks included the potential for other competitors from the championship in which they currently race across Latin America to bring their race cars to Guyana.
This initiative aims to elevate the level of competition at South Dakota, providing local and Caribbean motorsport fans with an unforgettable experience.
Team Speedway could have a stronger presence in motor-racing in Guyana
A key highlight of the meeting was the exploration of hosting a leg of this prestigious championship in Guyana in 2026.
The series features GT3 cars, V8 Supercars, TCR cars, and other high-performance race cars, making it one of the most exciting developments for the region’s motorsport scene.
In 2023, Franklyn Boodram’s Renault RS01 left Trinidad for the first time to compete, with South Dakota being the first track it toured.
Since then, they have acquired a Lamborghini GT3, which Zackary Boodram now drives.
Zackary currently leads the Latin America Championship, further solidifying their presence in the international racing arena.
“This is an exciting opportunity for us to bring a higher level of racing to Guyana,” said Mahendra Boodhoo.
“Having these elite cars and drivers compete at South Dakota would be a major milestone for motorsport in the Caribbean.”
The prospect of hosting an international championship race in Guyana is expected to generate immense excitement among fans and attract motorsport enthusiasts from across the region.
As discussions progress, both parties remain optimistic about the potential collaborations that will enhance Guyana’s reputation on the global motorsport stage.
