Murdered fisherman had long-standing grievance with suspect

The 22-year-old fisherman who was fatally stabbed by his brother-in-law was the victim of a long-standing grievance between the two men.

Michael Jackson ‘Junior’ was stabbed to death on Thursday night by Terrence Simon Adams, also known as ‘Black Brain’, 27, a fisherman from Lot 219, Fourth Street, No.76 Housing Scheme, Upper Corentyne, Berbice.

The stabbing occurred at approximately 21:00 hrs.

Radica Rajkumar, the mother of the deceased, is now calling for justice for her son.

She revealed that the suspect had been married to her daughter, who is now deceased, but had maintained a good relationship with her son.

However, their relationship soured a few days ago following an argument over Adams’ children.

“If the brother-in-law has to go to jail, I am not concerned. They had a problem here with my son, and he took the kids and left. When I went for my granddaughter’s birthday, my grandson wanted to come with me, but he sent the child back,” Rajkumar said.

She further explained that Adams had brought his daughter to stay at Rajkumar’s house for the weekend, but later moved in with her.

“…Next thing you know, he brought his and the girl’s clothes, and I didn’t say anything, because it was for the children. That’s what made him stay. I want justice for my son. I never expected something like this,” she added.

Rajkumar explained that the conflict had arisen when her son had taken Adams’ children out one day. Adams, she said, was upset because the children had not been bathed or properly dressed for the outing. He argued with Jackson and, during the confrontation, struck him with a cutlass. This occurred a few days ago.

“Since then, they haven’t stopped,” she said.

Meanwhile, Selina Gobin, the sister of the deceased, told reporters that when the incident occurred, her brother ran to her and told her, “Terrence bore he”.

She said when she lifted his shirt, she noticed the injury to his side and quickly wrapped the wound with a shirt, but her brother indicated that he was feeling dizzy.

She said the neighbours assisted in getting him to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving.

The suspect remains on the run as the police continue their investigation.
