Pensioner dies after attached by bees in Mahaicony

Imran Alli, a 70-year-old pensioner known as ‘Buddy’, lost his life after being attacked by a swarm of bees while clearing bushes on a plot of land near his home.

The incident occurred around 11:00 hrs on Tuesday when Alli and his worker, 43-year-old Dale Husher, were engaged in clearing the area opposite their residence at Lot 24 Novar.

It is reported that the pair inadvertently disturbed a bee nest, triggering the swarm’s aggressive response.

Zeana Alli, 63, the victim’s wife, described the harrowing moment when she heard Husher shouting for help.

Rushing to her verandah, she witnessed Husher fleeing in panic as her husband lay on the ground, surrounded by bees.

Despite the prompt alarm raised by local residents, their attempts to rescue Imran were ultimately unsuccessful.

Husher recounted the events, stating that both he and Imran were engulfed by the swarm as they worked. In the ensuing chaos, he was unable to assist his employer and fled to safety.

Following the attack, Alli was transported to the Mahaicony Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His body has since been taken to the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination.
