Attorney General Anil Nandlall has expressed deep frustration over the ongoing delays in the trial concerning alleged fraud in the March 2020 General and Regional elections, labeling the adjournments as part of an orchestrated effort to stall justice.
In his Tuesday night commentary, Nandlall emphasized that the judiciary must prioritize these cases, which he views as critical to maintaining the integrity of the democratic process in Guyana.
The trial faced yet another postponement on Tuesday when acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty announced that presiding Magistrate Leron Daly is still ill, leading to an adjournment until October 31.
McGusty noted that if Daly remains unwell at that time, the court will consider transferring the matter to another magistrate for continuation.
Nandlall criticized the defense’s repeated requests for adjournments and technical objections, stating, “Over the past three years, I have raised concerns about how these cases have been shifted between magistrates, seemingly to avoid resolution.”

He underscored the national importance of the charges, which he argues strike at the very foundation of the country’s democracy.
The Attorney General pointed out that the ongoing delays undermine public confidence in the judicial system, stating, “Every Guyanese should be concerned with this state of affairs.”
He reiterated the significance of these cases, which he believes are not ordinary but of grave public importance, impacting the electoral process and the will of the people.
Nandlall’s comments serve as a rallying cry for the judiciary to act decisively in this matter, especially with new elections on the horizon.
He urged that cases involving electoral issues should be expedited, as previously advised by the Caribbean Court of Justice.
