Teen jailed after nabbed with ganja

Nineteen-year-old Ovid Akeem Williams was Monday sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for the unlawful possession of 39 grammes of cannabis.

Police Headquarters, in a statement, said Williams the case was heard at the the Charity Magistrate’s Court by Magistrate Tamieka Clarke.

Two witnesses testified before the Prosecution closed the case.

The Magistrate then found Williams guilty of the charge and handed down the sentence.

Williams was arrested by Police on May 9, 2024 at Charity, Essequibo Coast, after he was found to be in possession of 39 grammes of cannabis.

He was charged under Section [5] (1) (a) (i) of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.
