Authorities are investigating the death of Wilton Benn, a 63-year-old Public Health Nurse, whose lifeless body was discovered in a hotel on Main Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice.

At approximately 9:02 hrs on Thursday, police were alerted to a report of a body found at the hotel. Upon arrival, officers located Benn’s motionless body in room 238. Emergency medical services were summoned to the scene but pronounced Benn dead at the location.

The cause of death is currently under investigation, with a post-mortem examination scheduled to determine the exact cause.

Holly Trim, a 38-year-old Public Health Nurse who works with Benn at the Maternal and Child Health Department of the Ministry of Health, revealed that Benn had been recovering from Dengue fever. She also shared that the two were in Berbice to conduct a supervisory visit to various health facilities to assess the management of the new HPV vaccine.

According to Trim, a 41-year-old driver from the Ministry of Health arrived at the hotel around 8:45 hrs to pick up Benn and Trim, who were staying in separate rooms. After receiving no response at Benn’s door, the driver forced entry and discovered Benn lying motionless inside the room.

Emergency services and police were promptly notified, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Benn’s death is currently underway.
