Police intervened Thursday morning in response to a protest that blocked Denis Street, Sophia and managed to remove the obstruction, consisting of approximately 15 tyres.
The protest was allegedly orchestrated by three men on two motorcycles. One suspect was apprehended by the police and is currently in custody.
According to reports, the tyres were placed on the road in protest of the proposed teacher salary increase. Police have been informed that teachers in the area may have financed the men responsible for the blockade.
During their search of the area, police discovered sixteen ‘Flambo’ glass bottles and two gallon containers of a suspected flammable substance, believed to be either gas or diesel. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
