In a landmark initiative to promote the rich culture and heritage of Guyana, the first-ever permanent Guyana exhibit outside of its homeland is set to be established in the Dominican Republic. This groundbreaking project represents a significant step in strengthening ties between Guyana and a more United Caribbean. The Hon. Prime Minister Mark Phillips, was in the Dominican Republic today to receive this gift for Guyana.
This exhibit space was donated through a collaborative effort between the Government of the Dominican Republic and the Dominican Chamber of Commerce in Guyana. The DR receives over 10 million tourists a year and this exhibit will be housed at the Columbus Lighthouse Museum in Santo Domingo, one of the most iconic monuments in the Caribbean, attracting hundreds of thousands of tourists through its doors. Currently undergoing renovation, this prestigious enclosure offers a unique opportunity to showcase Guyana’s vibrant culture to a global audience.
“We are thrilled to announce the development of this exhibit at such a renowned site,” said Miguel Angel Gonzalez, President of the Dominican Republic Chamber of Commerce in Guyana. “This initiative will not only enhance Guyana’s visibility on the international stage but also celebrate and solidify our cultural connections with the Dominican Republic.”
The project is expected to be a powerful platform for highlighting Guyana’s cultural richness and diversity. It will serve as a lasting tribute to the nation’s heritage and foster deeper understanding and appreciation between the peoples of Guyana and the Dominican Republic.
The support and collaboration of our partners and stakeholders will be crucial in bringing this vision to life. The Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture and the Office of the First Lady will play a critical role in this initiative. We are confident that this exhibit will stand as a testament to the enduring bonds between our nations and offer a window into the heart of Guyanese culture for visitors from around the world.
