Over 600 young people in Region Nine joined PPP/C – Jagdeo

Over 600 young people from Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) recently signed up to become members of the governing People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C).

This is according to party General Secretary Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, who on Thursday offered a brief update on his two-day outreach to the region. While there, Jagdeo met and addressed participants at a youth camp hosted by the Region Nine Progressive Youth Organization (PYO) at St. Ignatius Village, Region Nine. The PYO is the youth arm of the PPP/C.

Noting that the PPP/C has emerged as the only multi-racial party in the country, Jagdeo told a press conference on Thursday that later this week, he will also visit Region One (Barima–Waini) where he anticipates that more young people will join the party.

“In every region, this will happen,” Jagdeo said. At the party’s congress earlier this year, Jagdeo spoke about the investments being made to ensure the party has a 5,000-strong youth movement.

People’s Progressive Party General Secretary, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, addressed participants at a youth camp hosted by the Region Nine Progressive Youth Organization at St. Ignatius Village, Region Nine.

“We are preparing the next generation of leaders to emerge in the next 10 years as the leadership of the party and country. We are working to prepare them… kids from every community and every race,” Jagdeo said. He mentioned that the party’s membership is growing simply because of the work the government is doing in communities while cautioning that service to the people is by no means for targeted political gains.

“We have no apologetics for what we have done to change the lives of people,” Jagdeo added.
