GPL says working to return power to Bartica today

The Guyana Power and Light says it is making significant efforts to restore power to Bartica after a challenging few days.

GPL, in its latest update, assured residents of Bartica, Region Seven that it is working around the clock to return power to the area within the shortest possible time.

“Despite our team’s best efforts, they were unable to bring the Caterpillar engine online last [Tuesday] evening due to unexpected alignment issues with the alternator,” the power company said its latest update.

Bartica and surrounding communities have been without electricity since Sunday, August 04 after several engine failures were experience on at least three of four generators used to power the areas.

“However, the team worked until 2:00 AM this morning and has made substantial progress. We expect to complete work today and bring the engine online at the power plant to restore service to the Township.

“Additionally, we have a contractor on site to support our team in completing repairs on the other offline engines, which will provide reserve generation capacity,” the power company added.

MACORP was confirmed as the private contractor working to help restore power to the region.
