Two students, Amariah Rodrigues and Jamel Fredericks, were honored and rewarded on Tuesday for their outstanding performances at the just concluded National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) Examinations.
They were presented with laptops and printers at the Practical Institution Centre, Samaan Drive, Durban Backlands, having both earned a spots at the prestigious Queen’s College.
The community felt with was appropriate to honour these students in this manner.
They both attended Tucville Primary School and placed in the top one per cent.
“I feel very happy, to be honest. It feels great to know that I worked hard to achieve such greatness,” Rodrigues said.
Present at the small gathering were the parents of both students, their teachers and other elders and residents of the community, notably Kit Nascimento, Malika Cossou, Dr. Kathleen Rodney Scott and Egbert Field.
They all joined in congratulating the youngsters and wished them well in their journey into secondary school.
The residents reassured them that their support will always be with them. Both Amariah and Jamel wished for the younger students in the community to follow their example and to strive for greatness while putting in the hard work and sacrifices they made. (Reporting by Brad DeSouza)
