Man wanted for murder in US arrested in Georgetown

A 33-year-old citizen of the United States (US) who is wanted for a murder in his home country was on Monday afternoon arrested by members of the Guyana Police Force.

Police Headquarters said ranks from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) along with ranks from Special Branch headquarters, acting on information received, arrested Rakeem Antonio Gilgeous.

The arrest was made at about 16:30hrs at Postal Housing Scheme, Georgetown.

According to a Police report, a search was carried out at Gilgeous premises and a US passport was found.

The document was examined and Police said it was observed that Gilgeous arrived in Guyana on  July 8, 2024 through the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).

Police said Gilgeous was taken to the Alberttown Police Station, where he was placed in custody.

At the time of his arrest, Gilgeous had  US$12,000 in his possession which was lodged at the Alberttown Police Station.
