Marlon Marcus, also known as ‘Miceman,’ is accused of opening fire earlier this month, targeting a man who owed him $100,000 but had not repaid the debt. During the shooting, six-year-old Jeremiah Gustave was struck in the head.
Marcus surrendered to the police in July, just days after the Guyana Police Force issued a wanted bulletin for him.
During questioning, Marcus claimed that the gun used in the incident was given to him by a friend. He stated that he was on his way to return the gun when the shooting occurred.
The shooting happened around 19:45 hrs on July 9 at Charles Street, Charlestown. Investigations revealed that Gustave was standing next to his 39-year-old mother, a food vendor, on the eastern side of Charles Street when Marcus approached with a gun. Marcus fired four rounds in the direction of a man known as ‘Crab,’ who was standing nearby. ‘Crab’ fled the scene, but the stray bullets hit the child, who fell to the ground.
The boy was immediately taken to a city hospital by his mother and was admitted in critical condition.
Police recovered the gun that was used to commission the crime
According to information from the News Room, Marcus told investigators that he had lent ‘Crab’ $100,000 in May, which Crab had promised to repay but never did. Marcus said that every time he confronted Crab about the money, Crab became annoyed.
In early June, Marcus revealed that another friend, who claimed to be wanted by the police, gave him a gun for safekeeping. Marcus said he hid the gun in an old refrigerator at his mother’s house without her knowledge.
On the night of the shooting, Marcus claimed that this friend contacted him to return the gun. As he was heading to return it, he saw ‘Crab’ and attempted to confront him about the debt.
According to Marcus, Crab reached for a firearm from a car and began shooting at him. Marcus then drew his gun and fired back before fleeing to Sophia, where he returned the gun to his friend.
After the incident, Marcus went to stay with a relative in Linden and later traveled to the interior. He surrendered to the police upon learning about the wanted bulletin.
While in custody, Marcus directed the police to a location in South Ruimveldt where he identified the friend who had given him the gun. The friend managed to escape, but the police recovered a bag containing the gun used in the shooting. The gun was marked and lodged for ballistic testing.
Efforts to locate the friend have so far been unsuccessful, and Marcus remains in custody as the investigation continues.
